Week Four's Blog

This week's assignment proved just as difficult for me as last week's assignment. I know that I can, and maybe should, revise my topic but it's very interesting to me and I'm just going to have to do the extra work necessary for keeping this topic.  Some knowledge that I've gain as a result of my searched articles was that psychology, clinical psychology, is not an easy field to get into. What I appreciated was that articles are not books, and therefore I could read through them at a relatively quick pace. The new search strategy that was particularly helpful this week was the ease of typing in as much or as little as I wanted. From one or two words, to full phrases. The major difficulties that I encountered was the list of results.  So many come up, I should have chosen a topic like, AIDS.  I bet there would be a more specific result on any search I've done. I hope to find out how to become a practicing clinical therapist so that I can attain my goal of helping people through my career.

I am also perusing my degree in Psychology, although I am looking into Counseling Psychology. Through this class; I have learned that I need to focus on my writings in my Sociology and Psychology classes. It has kind of made me second guess the depth of them in the past. Maybe this is due to the fact that I didn’t take into consideration how broad of topics they really are. At first; I was thinking of narrowing it down to Counseling compared to Clinical Psychology. But I was really fascinated by the founders of Psychology, like Wundt and how he has influenced modern Psychology with his testing’s and laboratories.
Do you know what some of the keywords or phrases were that you entered; I was trying to find more information about modern Psychology. Maybe you have seen some that I haven’t, since our broad focus is Psychology.
Thanks, Angela

Although we are in very different fields (my degree will be in business), I see some similarities with the searches we have conducted through the course of this class. My topic is what communication skills are vital for employers to have in order to develop employees further as well as motivate them into greater team performance. Depending on the key word I used, my results were either far too many or none at all. Prior to this class, I had never fooled around with the AND or OR buttons on the advanced search. But by using them this time, I discovered it completely changed my search results. Being specific as opposed to vague in your thesis is good, but I've found through this searching that if I'm too specific in my keywords, as well as if I use these in combination with either AND or OR, my results are non existent. Good luck on the rest of your searching!
